Diamonds in the Ruff
Diamonds in the Ruff…a training class for families and their newly adopted dogs to help you start off on the right paw!
During their time with us at the shelter, most of our dogs have gotten a great start on their manners and obedience training with the help of our wonderful volunteer program. We hope the course will teach you to communicate with your dog in ways that he understands ,and that we can help to make the transition as stress free as possible for everyone! Although we have designed a course curriculum, it is flexible depending on the needs of the current group of dogs and families.
WHO can come?
Anyone who adopts a dog from the HSTT is invited to attend, with priority given to adoptions completed after July 15, 2005.
For certain dogs, the training classes will be included in their adoption fee.
WHAT are we going to learn?
The course will focus on basic manners such as polite greetings, obedience cues like sit, down, “leave it” and many more, and special behavior topics, like chewing, housetraining, and trail manners, or whatever the current group wants most to learn about.
Our hope is that you will come away with a better understanding of how dogs learn and how best to teach them in a way that they understand.
WHEN do the classes start?
Classes will start August 6 and will run for 5 weeks. They will he held on Saturdays at 12:30pm.
WHERE are the classes being held?
The classes will be held at Town Hall off of Airport Road.
WHY is the HSTT offering these classes?
Numerous studies have proven that trained dogs are much more likely to stay in their homes. We want all of our adoptions to be successful and know that sometimes having a new dog in the home can be overwhelming for both dog and family. The training style that we use is fun, effective and empowering for dogs and people and will help everyone to get off to a good start toward a lifetime of companionship.
HOW do I sign up?
At the time of adoption you will sign up for the classes. Your adoption counselor will assist you and answer and questions you may have.
